Snake first appeared on a 1976 arcade machine called Blockade and hit billions of phones in 1997 when Nokia bundled it with the 6110. It's still one of the most-played video games in history.

The strategy that wins

Trace the perimeter. Don't dive at food in the middle of the board until your snake is long enough to navigate around itself safely. The classic mistake is eating mid-board early — you trap yourself by move 30.
